🌿Seasons
Our Survival world uses a full season + calendar + temperature system. That means the environment changes over time: day length shifts through the year, crops grow differently per season, weather patterns change, and you’ll occasionally see seasonal ambience (particles + special holiday events).
What you can expect
🌿 Four seasons
Seasons cycle automatically:
Spring → greener vibe + more life
Summer → hottest season + faster farming outdoors
Fall → cooler days + autumn atmosphere
Winter → cold temperatures + snow/ice mechanics
Seasons are designed to feel immersive without damaging the world (no permanent biome edits).
📅 Calendar & Day/Night length
We run an in-game calendar with real months and weekday names. Each month has its own day/night length, so the “feel” of time changes across the year.
Examples from our setup:
January: 11 min day / 21 min night
April: 16 min day / 16 min night
July: 21 min day / 11 min night
December: 13 min day / 19 min night
So winters have long nights, summers have long days.
Season start dates:
Spring: March 4
Summer: June 4
Fall: September 4
Winter: December 4
⏳ Season length
Each season lasts about 2 real-life days on our server. After that, it smoothly transitions into the next season (Spring → Summer → Fall → Winter).
🌡️ Temperature system
Temperature updates continuously while you play. Your environment matters:
Season base temperature changes (winter is cold, summer is hot)
Weather can cool things down (rain/storm)
Height affects temperature (higher = colder)
Nearby heat/cold sources affect you (torches, campfires, lava, ice, nether portals, etc.)
Some armor gives insulation (leather helps more than heavy armor)
Extreme temperatures can cause effects (server-config dependent), like hunger/slowness, and very low temps can lead to freezing.
You’ll see your current temperature in the actionbar.
🌾 Farming changes (seasonal growth)
Many crops have season-based growth speed, especially outdoors.
Example rules you’ll notice:
Summer: fastest growth outside (great for farming)
Spring: decent growth outside
Fall: slightly slower outside
Winter: outdoor growth can stop (greenhouse/indoor farming still works)
“Indoor” farming stays more consistent, but some seasons may require stable light to keep growth going.
Crops affected include (among others): Wheat, Beetroot, Carrots, Potatoes, Melon/Pumpkin stems, Bamboo, Cocoa, Sugar Cane, Sweet Berry Bush, Cactus, Nether Wart.
🌧️ Weather behavior by season
Weather cycles are seasonal:
Winter & Fall: increased chance of extra downfall (more rainy/snowy vibes)
Summer: typically less natural downfall (drier feeling)
✨ Seasonal ambience (particles & visuals)
We use seasonal particles for atmosphere, for example:
Fall: falling leaves
Spring/Summer: fireflies
Summer: rare shooting stars
Winter: night spark effects + cold breath visuals when it’s cold
Some seasonal leaf visuals can also appear (client-side visuals only).
❄️ Snow & ice mechanics
Winter can bring snow and ice behavior:
Snow placement and snow-on-leaves can be enabled
Ice/snow cleanup and protection rules are in place to keep things smooth and safe
Natural snow is preserved where possible
🎉 Holiday events
During specific real-world dates, seasonal events can trigger with special effects and loot:
Christmas (25/12–28/12): village presents + festive night ambience
New Year (1/1): village fireworks celebrations
Halloween (31/10–2/11): spooky nights and special mobs
Easter (20/4–24/4): egg hunting + themed spawns
These events are meant to be fun extras and don’t permanently change your world.
🧭 Tips for players
Build a greenhouse or indoor farm if you want reliable year-round crops.
In winter, bring heat sources (torches/campfires) if you’re exploring long distances.
In summer, avoid overheating in hot biomes—water and shade help.
If you’re farming for profit, summer is your best season.
Admin note (for staff)
Seasons can be set per world using the RealisticSeasons command system (e.g. setting Spring to start the cycle). The calendar and temperature system activate automatically when seasons are enabled for a world.
